The Foundation of Real-World Success: Beyond the Code

There is a lot about CodeLiftSleep and his journey into software engineering that was anything but typical. Breaking into the industry at age 40, completely self-taught and without a CS degree – a feat many told him was impossible, he just refused to listen. He not only landed his first junior dev role, but thrived in it. His nearly two decades in tech span complex systems across global banking, finance, insurance, and healthcare, even including a wild ride as the sole IT department inside operations managing every facet of product development within a global bank.

Later, still working full-time, he went back to college and earned a Computer Science degree, partially to ensure all career paths were open but also because he believed there was value in it. However, one overriding belief has driven him throughout those years:

Health as the Ultimate Algorithm: Code, Lift, Sleep, Repeat.

For CodeLiftSleep, consistently crushing it in demanding coding roles isn’t just about raw technical talent. It’s deeply rooted in disciplined health and personal well-being. He genuinely believes that if you want to truly succeed at your job, that success starts with how you live your life – and that means living an active and healthy lifestyle. His moniker, “CodeLiftSleep,” isn’t just a catchy name; it’s his personal philosophy: “Code” for the passion of creation, “Lift” for the non-negotiable commitment to physical health that fuels a sharp mind, and “Sleep” for the vital recovery needed for sustained performance. This holistic approach is, for him, is the ultimate algorithm for long-term resilience and thriving in not just you career, but in your life in general.

Empowering Your Real-World Journey

In his book first book, Real-World Architecture for Junior Devs, and right here on this blog, CodeLiftSleep shares the tough lessons learned from his unique path. This platform is built for every aspiring developer – whether you’re a CS grad, bootcamp alum, or self-taught – who’s ready to bridge the gap between theory and the messy reality of tech and “The Real-World”. Expect practical guidance, essential knowledge, and mentorship you need to help you truly thrive. Essentially, he wanted to create the content he wish he would have had but didn’t on his journey, that in large part, is still missing today for this huge gap between what is learned in the classroom and what is expected in your first role as a professional.

His entire career stands as proof of one core belief: the only person who gets to write your life story is you, and you alone. People will try to define your limits, but your sheer will to learn, your passion for building, your relentlessness to solve tough problems, and your commitment to a healthy foundation are the only qualifications that truly count. This blog provides the tools; your perseverance will write the rest of your incredible story.
